Hampton Borough is a compact northwestern Hunterdon County community shaped by the Musconetcong River, rail history, Main Street and Route 31. It was incorporated as Junction Borough in 1895 and renamed Hampton in 1909.

Hampton is one of Hunterdon County's smaller boroughs, with a residential core clustered around Main Street, New Street and the former railroad junction. State Route 31 crosses the borough and connects it to nearby Clinton, Washington and Interstate 78.

Parks & Outdoors
Valley Road
Riverfront community park with parking, picnic facilities, playground space and access used by paddlers on the Musconetcong Water Trail.
The nationally designated Wild and Scenic river forms an important part of Hampton's landscape. Hampton Borough Park is a recognized launch/take-out point on the water trail.
Spruce Run Recreation Area and Voorhees State Park are short drives from Hampton but are outside the borough. They add hiking, paddling, camping and reservoir recreation to a Hampton-area trip.
History & Local Character
The borough grew where major rail lines crossed, earning the community the early name “Junction.” Rail access, the Musconetcong valley and a small commercial center helped establish Hampton as a distinct borough.
